Top of Mind Thursday February 11, 2016: A Not So Super Reaction
Last Sunday’s Super Bowl was a messy event.
Neither team played particularly well, but it was what happened outside of the goal posts that was memorable.
Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was very well contained by the Broncos defense. Until he got to the post-game press conference, where his comments were not worthy of the league’s MVP.
What is often remembered is not the score of the game, but how the players reacted afterwards.

Top of Mind Thursday February 4, 2016: Staying on Top of Your Game
At 45-4, the Golden State Warriors basketball team has the best record in professional sports.
So you’d think that last weekend’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers, the team with the worst record in the NBA, would be a piece of cake.
And for most of the game it was. At one point in the third quarter, the Warriors were ahead by over 30 points…until they relaxed and let the 76ers catch up–tying the game with just a couple of seconds left.
The Warriors won on a last-minute basket, but, given where they were earlier in the game, they should have never gotten into this position.
This is what happens when you take your lead for granted. How can you ensure your team stays on top of their game at all times? It’s never safe to assume anything is a slam-dunk.

Top of Mind Thursday January 28, 2016: Timing is Everything
This week I got a call from a sales rep, following up on a report I had downloaded, and asking if I had any questions.
The problem is I’d downloaded that report back in October! Not only did I no longer need assistance, I didn’t even remember who the company was or what the report was about.
Unfortunately, this organization is not alone. Too many companies create marketing materials, ask prospects to complete forms to access them, then never follow up! Or, as in the case here, they wait so long, the followup is useless.
Sometimes the best thing we can do to get new business is just show up–in a timely fashion.
And speaking of timely, my book was nominated for Marketing Book of the Year. It needs your vote this week to be a winner. Vote here between now and Saturday.
