Top of Mind Thursday July 23, 2015: A Fresh Approach to Fast
Amy’s Kitchen, the company that makes a popular variety of vegetarian organic frozen foods, has just opened a vegetarian drive-through fast food restaurant north of San Francisco.
Organic and fast food don’t seem to go together. However, Amy’s decided if there was a strong market for their frozen foods, why not fresh foods as well?
The initial reaction has been outstanding–long lines of people waiting to try this new fast food option. It’s too soon to tell whether the concept will last, and whether Amy’s will be able to scale their operation to open multiple outlets. But for now, they’re off to a running start.
What new angle can your business take to turn an existing concept into a fresh new exciting idea?

Top of Mind Thursday July 16, 2015:The Prime Directive
Yesterday, in a great marketing move, Amazon rewrote the book on summer shopping–declaring July 15 Prime Day and creating a series of special deals only for Amazon Prime members.
Promotions changed throughout the day, requiring multiple visits to the Amazon site to see what was on sale right now. Amazon also offered free trial Prime memberships to those who are not already in the program.
Wal-Mart stepped in to help by creating comparable deals of its own. While this may have driven business to Wal-Mart’s site, it also validated Amazon’s marketing creation.
Was Prime Day bigger than Black Friday, as Amazon claimed it might be? Probably not. But it did spark interest and traffic on what was likely a historically slow summer day for business. And the momentum is likely to build in the future.
What are you doing to re-energize your business this summer? What can you do to prime the pump for success?
