Top of Mind Thursday July 2, 2015: Celebrating Our Independence
This weekend we celebrate the 239th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
We’ve come a long way since then – both in terms of economic growth and prosperity, as well as leading the path for freedom, human rights, and democracy.
We also have the freedom to create and grow businesses, to develop innovative and creative products and services, and to offer our customers outstanding service and experiences. And, in turn, our customers have the freedom to go elsewhere if we don’t deliver on our promises.
Most of all, we have the freedom of possibility. Let’s take this time to appreciate all that this entails.

Top of Mind Thursday June 25, 2015: Capturing the Flag
Among the outcomes of last week’s killing of 9 people in a historic African-American church, has been a call to remove the Confederate flag from its place of honor in the South.
The man responsible for last week’s terrorist action told bystanders he had come to “kill Black people.” He and others have used the Confederate flag as a symbol of racism and hatred for years. It is for African-Americans similar to what a swastika represents to Jews.
Not only are South Carolina and other states removing the flag from in front of their state buildings, but merchants like Walmart, Amazon, Sears and eBay are now removing it from their stores as well.
That’s because these companies are recognizing that it is not good for business to be associated with hate and bigotry. In today’s highly connected world, it’s much harder to ignore what happens when these symbols are allowed to stand unchallenged.
Sometimes lowering the flag is symbolic of hope and change, and a way forward through hatred.
