If you checked the game score at halftime, it looked like the Atlanta Falcons were trouncing the New England Patriots. If you looked again in the third quarter, it looked like the Patriots were catching up but Atlanta could hold on. If you checked in the fourth quarter, you saw the game tied, and then won by the Patriots in overtime.
Football strategists will argue for months about what the Falcons did wrong and the Patriots did right. But the most relevant fact for both teams was that the Patriots kept going, never giving up until, with momentum on their side, they scored the final touchdown that won the game.
How many times do we give up because it looks like we’ve got no chance to pull out a victory? How often are we ready to concede defeat before the contest is really over?
As Yogi Berra said, it ain’t over till it’s over. And on Sunday, when it was over, it was the Patriots that were singing, not the Falcons.
