It’s not yet clear what exactly NJ Governor Chris Christie knew about the recent effort to create a traffic jam in Fort Lee, near the GW Bridge, or when he knew it.
What is certain, though, is this has created an embarrassing predicament for the man who has been seen by many as a leading moderate Republican presidential contender.
It’s quite possible this episode was orchestrated by aides without Christie’s knowledge, perhaps as a means of insulating him from any fallout if this became public.
Far too many organizations have cultures where actions with serious implications are taken without considering the consequences–or without the knowledge of the leadership team.
It’s critical to communicate key values up and down the organization so that employees know what you stand for, what’s appropriate, and, just as importantly, what’s not.
Something broke down in the communication chain in NJ. Time will tell whether or not Christie is able to bridge the gap of if the incident in Fort Lee will snarl traffic in his political future.
