On Tuesday night, the Golden State Warriors won their first NBA championship in 40 years, beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 4 games to 2…and they did this without having the best player on the floor.
The player who had the most points, rebounds, and assists in the series was LeBron James–probably the best individual player in basketball today–and he wears a Cavaliers jersey.
But the best overall TEAM in the NBA this year was the Warriors. They worked together to drive the team forward, from the first game of the season till Tuesday’s championship win.
When league MVP Steph Curry wasn’t playing well, other players stepped up. When the Warriors got stuck, they changed strategies and benched some of their usual starters. And, the player crowned Finals MVP, Andre Iguodala, hadn’t even been a starter during the regular season.
Are you building a business around a star individual, or building the bench strength that wins championships? In the end, it’s the best overall team that goes home a winner.
