The game was close–it could have gone either way almost down to the last few minutes. But the momentum had turned a week earlier when the Cavs began a comeback from a 3-1 deficit to force the deciding final game.
This wasn’t supposed to happen. The Warriors had the best winning record in the regular season and had smashed records throughout the year. No team had ever come back from a 3-1 deficit to win the Finals.
But Cleveland had LeBron James–not only one of the best players in basketball, but a man on a mission to end a 52-year championship drought for the city of Cleveland. He was a force that would not be denied.
When it comes down to what counts, the will to win overrides reputation and prior performance. It’s a lesson the Warriors learned the hard way this week.
