The NBA has taken swift action against LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling, in response to racist comments made by Sterling on a recently released recording.
The question is why this situation had to escalate before action was taken.
Many people who knew Sterling, including some of his friends, are not surprised to hear these comments. If they knew this was happening, why did it take this incident to spur action?
How often do we hear of similar wait-till-the-last-possible second situations? Sexual assault has been growing at a rapid rate in the US military–why has nothing been done till now? Is it because no one will listen till a situation becomes so blatant it can no longer be ignored?
Wouldn’t it be so much simpler and more effective to stop inappropriate behavior, or all kinds, when we see it happening–rather than wait till the last second on the clock?
