Thus ended the longest drought in professional sports–supposedly started by a man cursing the club for not allowing him to bring his goat into the stadium in 1908.
It may have seemed like magic to long-suffering Cubs fans. But more likely it was a solid group of athletes brought together by an astute general manager who also ended the Boston Red Sox long quest for a World Series.
The Indians were a formidable opponent. Grit and determination combined with a solid strategy, talent, and hard work sent the goat out to pasture for good.
Congratulations to the Cubs for a job well done!
