The sun never rose yesterday in Northern California and much of the Pacific Northwest.
A creepy orange haze blanketed the area from what should have been sunrise to nightfall. It was so dark that lights were needed all day long. Early morning, noon, and dusk all looked the same.
Today the orange has changed to grey. There’s more light, but the particulate matter count from the fires in the region is much higher–making the air extremely unsafe to breathe for most people.
What’s strange is that most of the fires are not local. But the smoke and ash are traveling through the air and impacting millions of people. When that happens, there isn’t much you can do but stay inside as much as possible and wait it out.
Much of 2020 has been like a grey cloud hovering above us. Most businesses have been impacted–some won’t make it through this, others will be permanently changed.
None of us are happy about all this, but like the ash cloud over the West Coast, there isn’t much we can do to make it disappear quickly. What’s important is that we take actions to take care of ourselves, our businesses, and our customers as much as possible.
And we need to take advantage of opportunities to shine again when the fog lifts.
