Grab some popcorn and a drink. Find a seat with a good view and get comfortable. The circus is in town and it looks like it may be here for awhile.
No, I’m not talking about Ringling Brothers or even Cirque du Soleil, unfortunately. This is the American presidential campaign and, for better or worse, it’s got another 15 months to run.
The Republican candidates held another set of debates last night, which appear to be as much an exercise in berating the other performers as it is in educating the populace about the views of particular candidates. We haven’t yet had the Democratic version of this act–that will come after intermission.
While this is certainly more entertaining than the usual political process, we run the risk of choosing the next leader of the free world based on media and entertainment value. If we focus on the clowns, the funny thing is the joke for the next four years will be on us.
